NYC Disables Wifi Hotspot/Internet Kiosks Because Homeless Use It To Watch Porn
Just about everyone has a cell phone and almost no one uses a payphone anymore sooo, NYC tried to do something useful with the thousands of unused payphones in the city.
They turned them into an internet kiosk which also functions as a wifi hotspot.
It sounds like a brilliant idea as the mayor touted..."Writing in the Daily Dot, NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio championed the plan: “This is a no-brainer for the city and our residents. Everybody benefits from upgrading our old payphones to something far newer, infinitely more useful, and 100-percent free.”'
But as a rule, things the government does have unintended consequences. In this case, pretty hilarious unintended consequences...
"Shop owners and residents, complained that the kiosks have become a public nuisance, with loiterers using the devices to watch YouTube, catch up on Netflix, and everything else you might expect. Councilman Corey Johnson told the New York Times he’s seen people watching porn on the screens with kids nearby." Writes the Daily Dot.
